How Can swelling And Pain In The Ankle Be Treated?

My left foot, on the top, and my left ankle (inside ankle) are swollen. they burn from time to time and it is painful to touch on the skin above the ankle. What would cause this as my right side is okay? My email is YYYY@YYYY PS. I have had lung cancer twice. Could this have any relationship to this event? I had a third of my right lung removed 8/98 and it returned and I had surgery 4/13 to remove it and scrape it off my chest wall as it had leaked. So far no sign of it returning.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It might be due to minor contusions. As a first line management, you can apply ice packs for symptomatic relief. If symptoms persist, better to consult an orthopaedic and plan for an MRI scan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
